Birgitta Jónsdóttir is a member of the Icelandic Parliament, an early Wikileaks volunteer, and the chief sponsor of the Icelandic Modern Media Initative (IMMI), legislation designed to strengthen free speech, protect investigative journalism, and increase transparency internationally.
Before entering Iceland's Parliament in April 2009, Birgitta Jónsdóttir worked as a writer, artist, activist, web developer and designer. She is the chairperson of her political party—The Movement—and serves on the Foreign Affairs, Environmental, EU Application, Truth Commisssion, and NATO parliamentary committees.
