Hilary Weston Writers' Trust prize winner!

On Monday night the second annual Hilary Weston Writers' Trust Prize winner was announced: Candace Savage's book Geography of Blood. Congratulations to Candace Savage for writing an important piece of the Canadian story.

Samara's community knows how to pick a winner: You voted Geography of Blood Samara's People's Choice (in a tie with Modris Eksteins' Solar Dance)

And we have a winner ourselves: Krista Daley has won a prize pack of all five books, courtesy of the Writers' Trust of Canada. Thanks to all of you for participating.

I hope to have more free books coming your way in the lead-up to Christmas.

Learn more about Candace Savage's Geography of Blood below and purchase it at any of Canada's amazing bookstores.

Jury Citation:
"One day in late September of 2000, Candace Savage travels from her home in Saskatoon to Eastend, a village of 600 people on the eastern edge of the Cypress Hills. A two week vacation evolves into a decade-long fascination with the region and the writing of A Geography of Blood, a part-memoir, part history, part geological survey, part lament, part condemnation of the accepted myth of the settlement of the Western Plains, and above all, a haunting meditation on time and place."
