Samara’s Everyday Political Citizen contest launches in two weeks!

Last year we hosted the Everyday Political Citizen contest that celebrated the unsung heroes of Canadian democracy.

We asked Canadians across the country to nominate their role models, people who work through the political system to create positive change in their communities.

Then, an amazing panel of jurors that included Rick Mercer, Preston Manning and Kathleen Monk read over 200 nominations and chose a shortlist and two winners who were named Everyday Political Citizens of the Year.

This year – we’re at it again!

It was so inspiring to get to know hundreds of Canadians doing such amazing work. At a time when we are voting in lower numbers than ever, and less than 10% of us have ever volunteered on a political campaign, we at Samara think it’s about time to sing the praises of those who do take the time to engage with our political systems and work toward the changes they want to see.

So consider this your heads up. It’s time to start thinking about your everyday political hero so you can make their day by shining a spotlight on their work.

We’ll be celebrating Canada Day by posting the nomination form on our site. Until then, you can get some inspiration by browsing through last year’s nominees at www.everydaypoliticalcitizen.tumblr.com.
Nominate early, nominate often!
