2017 EPC Nominee: Aerin Jacob

Aerin EPC

Aerin Jacob of Canmore, AB, was nominated by Alana Westwood

Dr. Aerin Jacob is not just a well-respected scientist, but committed to making sure that scientific knowledge is available to (and used by) the public and government. Over the last half-decade, much of her career has focused around organizing scientists to help make democracy better. She organized Canada’s first national political candidates’ debate about science and technology ahead of the last federal election. She also organized thousands of young scientists to contribute to a letter calling for better environmental assessment in Canada, and has continued to be a Canadian leader organizing on this issue. Alongside other Liber Ero fellows, she is active in policy engagement. Although she could have remained in the ivory tower, instead, she uses her energy to be a force for conservation and environmental protection in Canada, advocating for evidence-based decision-making and an informed public.
