2017 EPC Nominee: Zeinab Mohamed

Zeinab EPC

Zeinab Mohamed of Ottawa, ON, was nominated by Tong Zhao-Ansari

As an immigrant and Muslim women with disability, Zeinab finished her school and has a beautiful daughter. She is an active community advocate. She is involved in many initiatives:

  • She started and runs a homework club. It has grown so much that it is not only open to kids in her building but to all the neighborhood kids. She is helping 20 kids 2 days a week with the support of 11 volunteers.

  • She is part of the Canadian Association of Muslims with Disabilities (CAM-D) and worked to create the Ottawa Chapter in 2011 to help people with disabilities get support and break isolation

  • She also engages residents to encourage them to vote during election time. Ottawa Centretown riding where she encouraged residents to vote had the highest voter turnout 82% in the entire country during the last federal election.

She believes that people want to get involved, to be connected and to contribute. They just need a little push at times and the support and resources to do so. And each one of us can contribute to that.
