2017 EPC Nominee: Patricia Santos

Patricia Santos EPC

Patricia Santos of Toronto, ON, was nominated by Zestaline Kim

Patricia Santos recently came to Canada from Brazil in 2010.  As a single mom of 2 little kids (ages 3 & 5 years old), she has been working hard to settle in Canada and learn English.  Through her English teacher in the LINC classes at North York Community House, she has come to learn that her voice matters.  In learning about how the Canadian government works, she discovered that she could communicate directly with her elected officials.  She grasped onto this idea and learned more about her rights – including starting a petition to engage her friends, classmates, and neighbours to help amplify their concerns about some new legislation that she feels would affect her family and her community.  To date, she has gathered more than 10 sheets of names and continues to feel passionate in her commitment to engage in Canada’s political democracy.  This is why she should be Canada’s new Everyday Political Citizen.
