Jaimie Anderson Parliamentary Internship: Application deadline March 1st

by Fiona O'Connor

Last year we told you about an exciting internship opportunity that lit up the Twitterverse and got many of you talking. Well, there’s more good news to share: the Jaimie Anderson Parliamentary Internship Program is back for its second year, and accepting applications now until March 1st.

The Jaimie Anderson Parliamentary Internship is among several excellent programs that give young Canadians the opportunity to experience politics first-hand. This particular internship, however, is unique in that it honours the memory of a young Canadian known for her “passion for politics and an abiding respect for people of different points of view.” You can learn more about Jaimie Anderson, and the story behind the internship program in her name, in this piece by Susan Delacourt published last year.

This paid internship provides one or more Canadian undergrads the chance to work in the office of a federal MP and do meaningful work, including "managing constituency casework, building systems to improve efficiency of case work and contributing to the policy work of the office."

Interested applicants are asked to submit the following by March 1st:

  • A résumé briefly outlining your education, work and any other pertinent experience to date.
  • A letter of 500-1000 words describing why you would like to have this opportunity.
  • Three letters of recommendation from people who support your application.
  • Successful applicants must be willing to prepare a 2000 word paper about their experience.

Further details about the Jaimie Anderson Parliamentary Internship Program can be found at: http://jaimiesinternship.ca/. We strongly encourage eligible candidates to apply for this exceptional opportunity to learn about Canadian politics and contribute to the political life of our country. Please share widely!
