Ready your bookshelves for new additions!

by Jane Hilderman

Canadian politics has undergone fresh analyses in two newly published books – both of which feature several members from Samara’s academic team!

December 2011 saw the release of The Canadian Federal Election of 2011, which offers a comprehensive exploration of the campaigns and electoral outcome. Congratulations to Samara academic team members, Jon Pammet (Carleton), who co-edited the book, as well as chapter contributors: Alex Marland (Memorial), Chris Waddell (Carleton), Mary Francoli (Carleton), André Turcotte (Carleton), and Lawrence LeDuc (University of Toronto).

This week saw the release of Political Marketing in Canada from UBC Press. Described as “path-breaking”, this book “offers new research on a global phenomenon and shows how politicians and their advisers have adapted international approaches to create a unique Canadian form of political marketing.” You can judge for yourself whether new political marketing techniques are making politicians more responsive to voters or undermining the public good.

A shout-out to members of Samara’s academic team involved with putting the book together, including its editors, Alex Marland (Memorial) and Thierry Giasson (Université Laval), and contributors  Elisabeth Gidengil (McGill), Royce Koop (Simon Fraser University), and André Turcotte (Carleton).
