Nominee: Sanjana Vijayann

Nominator: Margarita Matias Valencia

City: Winnipeg

Sanjana is an inspiring young student and a youth mobilizer who dedicates her life to advocate for anti-poverty programs and to teach her fellow students that their voices count. She doesn't shy away from showing others how to use their voice and get engaged in social issues –she does this by hosting regular advocacy workshops in her university that include the municipal, provincial and federal representatives, and by inviting students to join numerous anti-poverty campaigns. Sanjana’s energy and passion is simply contagious as she uses her voice to improve the quality of millions, especially women and girls, in the developing world. She is an example of how we can amplify our voices and talk to politicians about the issues we want to see championed in the House of Commons. Canada is lucky to have a great advocate like Sanjana inspiring others to get involved in the issues that really matter.
