Politics is a Party this April

A wise comedian once said “Spring is nature’s way of saying ‘let’s party!’” This April, we at Samara are dusting off our party shoes to bring you four exciting – and very different – events! Kicking off with a prom and wrapping up with an insiders’ panel, we have something for everyone next month. Grab your calendar and mark down these snow-melting, democracy-loving events:

A Prom – Samara is co-presenting Wonk Prom: The Policy After Party on Thursday, April 7th right after the annual Public Policy Forum dinner. In partnership with MASS LBP and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, DJ Werb will be spinning tunes while you brush shoulders with Canada’s policy who’s-who. Click here for details and tickets for Wonk Prom!

A debate – Once you’ve slept off the Wonk Prom, head over to Spur Festival to debate politics and culture. Our Executive Director Jane will moderate a discussion with Susan DelacourtÉric Grenier and Martin Patriquin on Sunday, April 10thClick here for details and tickets for Spur Festival.

A night at the movies – After falling in love with the film My Internship in Canada at TIFF last fall, the Samara team decided we needed to screen this Canadian comedy about a hapless MP and his Haitian intern. For REEL Canada's National Canadian Film Day on Wednesday, April 20th, we're taking over the Yonge and Dundas Cineplex with Regent Park Film Festival and Buzzfeed’s Elamin Abdelmahmoud for a free viewing. Click here for details and ticket reservations.

A book launch – Finally, wrap up an excellent month by celebrating the release of author Jonathan Craft’s Backrooms and Beyond: Partisan Advisers and the Politics of Policy Work in Canada and a conversation with two former PMO staff. Also Wednesday, April 20th at 6pm at Samara's office (33 Prince Arthur Ave.) Email [email protected] to RSVP before April 15th.

April marks six months out from the federal election—but this doesn't mean we're easing up on our political education, debate, and participation! This April, politics is a party and we hope to see you there!
