Samara's 2017 Democracy 360 is here!

In this year of Canada's 150th birthday, Canadians have a new urgency to talk about the health of our democracy. To help kick-start this conversation, Samara has launched the second Democracy 360, a report card on the state of Canada's democracy.

Built on the understanding that democracy is about more than just casting a ballot every four years, this research examines the complex relationship between citizens and their political leaders, focusing on how they interact between elections. Using 19 indicators and 38 sub-indicators, it provides a more comprehensive picture than ever before of how Canadians talk, act and lead in politics.

To prompt reflection and discussion, Samara has awarded Canada's democracy an overall letter grade, as well as grades for three areas essential to a healthy democracy: communication, participation and leadership. To give these grades a boost, Samara suggests five ways to strengthen our "democratic infrastructure." Read the full report now.

With interactive maps, animated graphics, and streaming video, the newly designed Democracy 360 website allows you to experience our research like never before. Try it out today.

After you're done digging through the data, join us for a #SamaraChat on Twitter this Friday, March 31st, at 12pm EST and tell us how you think we should invest in Canada's democratic infrastructure. RSVP to receive a reminder and questions in advance!

La version française de ce rapport sera disponible le 4 avril. Nous vous invitons à écrire à [email protected] pour en obtenir une copie.
