Mary Joy Sisca EPC

Mary Joy Siscar of Vancouver, BC, was nominated byAdrian Bontuyan

She came, she got involved, she gave back and keeps giving! Mary Joy is not your ordinary newcomer youth. She is filled with passion and is ready to help and rally other newcomer youth to be active participants in the community.

Mary Joy Siscar is a Grade 12 student at John Oliver Secondary School. She came with her family from the Philippines and arrived in Canada in October 2015. Mary Joy is currently involved as a Youth Leader with the Engaged Immigrant Youth Program (EIYP). She is passionate about helping other newcomers to find new friends and get involved in programs to help them develop their leadership skills. She is an active participant of the Mentorship Program for Filipino newcomer youth and takes a leadership role in the VPD NewKidz Police Academy. Mary hopes to become a Police Officer in the future.

In addition, Mary Joy is currently leading a Community Action Project after her training in Montreal with EQUITAS. Recently, she was one of our trained Youth Ambassadors for our NOW (Newcomers and Orientation and Welcome) BC event at the Vancouver School Board.

There is so much more to share about Mary Joy, but this description alone shows a lot about her heart, passion and desire for other youth to be active participants in their new community.
