2017 EPC Nominee: Narine Dat Sookram

Narine EPC

Narine Dat Sookram of Kitchener, ON, was nominated by Nathan Paul

Mr. Sookram went above and beyond his existing commitments to community initiatives and took it upon himself to initiate the “Canada150 Pay It Forward Project (2017)” to commemorate Canada’s 150th anniversary. Mr. Sookram was driven by the need and immense gap he saw in his community for a project like this, so he decided to do something to act like a true Everyday Political Citizen.

As a result of Mr. Sookram’s initiative, many citizens are now employed, as it helped them with their employment needs. His efforts also made our democracy stronger because Mr. Sookram did not discriminate who he helped based on race, religion, ethnicity, age, sex, colour, etc.  He reached out to random citizens who needed assistance in making their resumes/covers letters, and finding meaningful work, so that they could take care of their families. This was all from the kindness of his heart.
