2017 EPC Nominee: Jackie DeRoo

Jackie D EPC

Jackie DeRoo of Vancouver, BC, was nominated byRachel Tetrault

About 5 years ago, Jackie's life changed forever when she came home one evening to find her adult son sobbing in his hands while watching TV.  It was about climate change.  He was sure that the future was hopeless for him, and that he didn't think he would ever have children. Right then and there Jackie DeRoo in the middle of her retirement, never having taken political action before, decided to dedicate her life to being an everyday political citizen, and to do what she could to make Canada a more sustainable, democratic and just place not only for her children, but for all of us.  Jackie's passion is democracy and electoral reform and she sees the link between a strong, representative and diverse government, and bold action on climate change.  She has spent years organizing with Leadnow, first leading a team of dozens of volunteers in a door to door campaign in the 2015 federal election, then working tirelessly around changing the way we vote and engaging citizens in the process.
