Announcing Digital Opportunities and Job Opportunities

The Internet has transformed democracy, for better or worse.

Driven by the evolution of digital technology, and hastened by the pandemic, more and more Canadians now depend on tools like Facebook and Zoom to stay connected.

By connecting citizens, elected representatives, and civil society organizations, these tools offer the potential to foster a healthier democracy. But when it comes to engaging online, many public leaders still struggle.

That is why the Samara Centre is pleased to present Digital Opportunities, a practical guide to improving digital engagement during the pandemic and beyond. The guide comes in two editions — one for elected representatives and another for civil society leaders.

Drawing on behavioural science and social media research, the guide:

  • Highlights the rewards of digital engagement;
  • Provides tips on how to engage effectively;
  • Describes challenges such as trolls and disinformation (and how to deal with them); and
  • Suggests a variety of tools to get started.

Help to improve digital engagement and strengthen the connection between Canadians and their leaders by sharing
these resources on social media and with your representatives.
