Welcome to the 43 Parliament

For more than ten years, the Samara Centre for Democracy has studied Canada’s federal Parliament, political parties, and citizen engagement. In this time, the Samara Centre has established itself not only as a trustworthy source of information on the health of our democracy, but also as a champion of parliamentarians’ crucial role within it.

Indeed, Members of Parliament are a major focus of Samara’s work. We have completed over 130 exit interviews with former MPs, and conduct annual surveys of sitting MPs as well. We then use the findings from this research to advocate for elected representatives who are more independent, thoughtful, engaged, and empowered.

We regularly appear before parliamentary committees on issues of democratic reform and consult with the All-Party Democracy Caucus, the President of the Privy Council, the Opposition Critics overseeing the Democratic Institutions portfolio, the Library of Parliament, and individual MPs.

Members, we are here to assist you and your staff in our shared objective of pursuing a resilient and vibrant democracy. Below you will find a selection of non-partisan resources which can assist you in defining your role and priorities as an MP in the 43rd Parliament.
