Executive Director — February 2021
With the assistance of Odgers Berndtson, the Samara Centre for Democracy is hiring an Executive Director. Reporting to the Board of Directors, this role is an ideal opportunity for an outgoing, talented strategic leader who will carry out the Samara Centre’s mission and inject fresh insight and perspective into the organization and continue building on its impressive accomplishments.
The Executive Director serves as a principal spokesperson and representative of the organization. A fundamental function of the Executive Director role is to promote the Samara Centre as an active advocate for advancing the health of democracy in Canada through quality research and outreach.
As the successful candidate, you have the exceptional ability of executing on a vision and strategy. You understand the demands of leading a not-for-profit organization and are adept at fostering a culture of inclusion, empowerment, collaboration, innovation, and resourcefulness. You have the breadth and depth of experience needed to challenge the status quo and rally the organization behind the organization’s vision and strategic pursuits. Your passion for democracy will inspire the Samara Centre to take bold and decisive actions to continue adding significant value to the democratic ecosystem. A compelling and inspirational speaker, you are known for your well-honed diplomatic skills and superb communication skills. As the face and voice of the organization, you are comfortable speaking with the media, government officials, and donors, as well as addressing large audiences.
Success in this challenging role will require a special combination of leadership excellence, strong intellectual abilities and personal qualities that transfer well to a nonprofit leadership position. A relevant university degree and at least ten years of professional experience, with at least five in a leadership role, preferably relating to public policy, research, economics, journalism, democracy advancement, or politics, are required.
