Nominator: Youssef Mikhael

City: Mississauga, On

There's something about Aaron that seems to draw people in - his desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, readiness to consider, drive to serve, & carefulness to dispose and set in order.

Upon emigrating from Bahrain after the Gulf War, education & service formed the cornerstone of Aaron’s upbringing in Canada. Years of engagement in social issues took Aaron from the crèches of post-Apartheid townships in Cape Town to the hilltop villages of Puerto Carreño. In high school, Aaron co-developed a scheme to help people living below the breadline by delivering food hampers to support agencies in his community.

After an exchange in Europe & a development stint in Russia, Aaron founded the Canadian Youth Think Tank, a knowledge hub comprised of young Canadians who facilitate broader youth involvement in Canadian civic & democratic life.

Aaron was elected a Youth Councillor of the Mississauga City Youth Council, selected as Canada's OSCE Youth Ambassador, & served as an international election observer in Ukraine. This summer, he was also a Jaimie Anderson Parliamentary intern on Parliament Hill.

For his dedicated work in Canada & beyond, Aaron was recognized with the Queen’s Young Leaders Award.
