Samara’s First Twitter Chat! Thursday, June 5th

As the Ontario provincial election kicked off last month, Alison joined Matt Galloway on Metro Morning, with Taylor Gunn from Civix, to discuss voter engagement. The interview began with a montage of conversations with Torontonians on the street who stated their level of interest, knowledge and involvement was negligible to none at all. One month later, we feel this conversation is worth revisiting. (If you haven’t listened to the Metro Morning interview, listen here.)

At lunch-hour (12-1pm) on June 5, Alison Loat and Samara staff will be hosting a discussion on Twitter, using the hashtag #SamaraChat, around the following questions:

  • In the last Ontario election, turnout was a record low at 49.2%. Do you think turnout will be higher or lower this time? What are the barriers to voting? Are you facing any of these barriers?
  • Why do you think there is such a low level of interest in the Ontario election?
  • What do you think are the most effective tactics to engage voters? Do they differ for young voters? What is your voting plan?
