2017 EPC Nominee: Jun Kai (Leo) Xu

Leo Xu is an exceptional young volunteer and senior high school student who dedicates himself in a multitude of non-profit leadership organizations in municipal, provincial and national communities. Leo has contributed over 800 volunteer hours to his local community since the beginning of his high school career. Leo acts as the spearhead of many successful youth organizations which promote political engagement, advocate for student education and increase social involvement of young people across the Greater Toronto Area.

Leo’s work in the Federation of Canadian Secondary Students, Markham Mayor’s Youth Council, RCMP National Youth Advisory Council, just to name a few, exemplifies his exceptional dedication to being a political citizen who greatly benefits his community. He has raised over $3000 in sponsorship for the support of youth based events that promote active thinking and political engagement. His work in the Student Bill of Rights with the FCSS-FESC promotes equity among students across Canada. Leo also actively advises RCMP professionals on youth issues such as drug abuse, mental health and sexual wellness in tandem to tangible solutions to these pertinent issues. At the age of 17, Leo’s leadership, passion and authentic passion for political advocacy and social involvement is often unmatched and deserves recognition. His actions in the community support youth of all ages as he makes his person prerogative to give back to the people who helped him grow as a first generation Canadian-Chinese citizen.
